Malpassi Filter King Regulator
« on: May 27, 2026, 11:12:31 AM »
Morning,

I have fitted a FR and dialled it down to 3psi (running a mechanical pump btw).  Question, what do I do with the carb return, currently its running as was stock setup?

The fuel return (I think via a 1mm hole) naturally regulates the flow but no harm in a Malpassi that smooths it out. I would keep the fuel return as it allows the carb some cool fuel which will help carb vaporisation on hot days...

Hi Mark

My 2 cents, as the mech pump runs all the time, the return gives it somewhere for the excess pressure to go to and as Tim says, no harm in having cool fuel being circulated. With an electric pump I would block off the return as my understanding is that they will normally turn off when the back pressure reaches a certain limit. This would then allow the pump to not run all the time and hence hopefully extend its life.

Understand you getting the filter king, but unsure if you need the pressure regulation part with the mech pump, what did you find the reading was in regulated?

It easily went to 5psi, now regulated to 3psi.  I didnt test how high it could go.  The garage dyno people recommended it, but what do they know (based on my recent jet settings issues)  :-\

5 psi, that is interesting, I might just have a play on the Spider with one. I shall be fitting one to the HPE due to electric pump to be fitted, so will not be wasted.

My understanding of Facet electric pumps they keep pumping. I would always opt for having a return pipe to get as cool a fuel as possible. Previous generation classics that had carb in front of radiators, in the middle of a V, or over hot exhaust, suffer from fuel vaporisation. With a fuel return this was much improved.
