Front caliper refurb how to guide
« on: Today at 08:57:36 AM »
Hi Maybe I am looking in the wrong place as cannot find it but if one exists can someone point me in the right direction for a guide on refurbing front brake calibers. Ive got 4 to do and I am sure Ive read somewhere that there is a tricky clip to find in order to release the piston.

I am doing my spare set first then when I swap them with the ones on the HPE I will refurb them

I have the seal kits from Mark already

The tricky bit if I am recalling correctly is releasing the rear piston of the two in each caliper. There is a clip that has to be released via one of the bleed screw holes or the hose attachment hole I don't remember which. I'll find the  relevant instructions. These are typical traditional Lancia off the wall thinking and quite different!

Here is the official instructions, early series but I believe they are all much the same. No doubt others will be able to supply tips how to do it the easiest way in practice. I cheated and and someone else did mine, I found the clip awkward to get out so gave up but I'm no engineer and not good with such things. Apologies but there photos aren't in the right order please refer to the page numbers

Hi Steve

If you need a hand I have just re-sealed my front ones, as Alan says the tricky bit is getting the C section clip out of its groove and removing it and then getting the separating disk which it retains out. Compressed air is pretty mandatory or having it attached to the brake system which would be very messy......

If you need a hand happy to help when we get back after the 20th June.

Hi Peter, many thanks for offer of assistance. I may take you up on that. I have compressed air by way of compressor though a little concerned by this clip  it has to be said. I will take a look this week and see how I get on.

The Haynes manual has tips for this. I wrecked one caliper scoring the bore to get the clip out...

It is recommended to use thin copper sheet or similar to protect the bore upon removal of the clip I believe
