Hi Guys,
I was thinking of renewing the engine mounts as there is a bit of vibration at idle and so far have found that the engine stabiliser rod (dog bone) has completely failed on both ends and so new PU bushes in the post. However, in the 2 years of ownership, I have never noticed the engine mount on the RHS beneath the crank pulley ...until now !!!!
It looks to me like a PO has fitted an inadequate and non-standard mount or more likely made a shockingly poor attempt at fabricating one. It obviously works, of a fashion, but the outer side of the rubber mount is missing altogether...whaaaaat !
I suspect that this and the dog bone may explain the vibrations....You think ?
1st photo is the part of the mount on the inner side of the subframe
2nd photo is the part of the mount, or lack of, on the outer
I fully accept that you pay your money and you takes your chance but just goes to show that 45 years and several owners, there are bound to be some short cuts to save money.
I will eat my words if anyone out there tells me this is a recognised alternative solution for an engine mount though.
Cheers,
Steve
PS Yes, I am ashamed and embarrased that I have not spotted this before now.
PPS The engine damper bushing also appears to have failed and a repair attempted with some kind of filler.
