Reflex kit. Lancia beta based
« on: September 22, 2026, 07:53:08 PM »
Does anyone know anything about these?

More importantly anyone know for sure about registering this. Will it need an IVA?

There's a long thread on the Reflex elsewhere here. (edit, you found it Steve!)

I actually viewed a red one several years ago near Ashford, Kent, and
later tried to trace it, along with help from Peter and others. The original
designer, or a relative, was tracked down but from what I recall there were hard
feelings surrounding it.

This seemingly unused shell is a surprise.

Thanks Nigel.  Yes I found the thread via a Google search 🤣

I am sorely tempted by this because it intrigues me and it’s different.

Registering it worries me

Yes I know quite a lot, spoke with the designer/builder some years ago and his grandson. As mentioned in my text a whole world of work/money to get this built and registered.

Steve, it must come with a tubular steel chassis, otherwise it's useless!

I wonder if this shell is the one that was advertised recently with the Guy Croft Volumex drivetrain that is now on eBay as a separate item (Usual caveats apply to that)?

Registration of the kit shouldn't be difficult, you'd need a donor car, in this case a Lancia Beta that's beyond saving, with a V5 document with the correct chassis number and engine number. Assuming you can build the kit and get it through an IVA test you will end up with an age related registration number. No specific donor and an IVA pass gets your the Q plate. That's not as frowned upon as it used to be in the kit car world but most still want to avoid it if possible.

As to the state of the chassis and the design of the chassis that's up to the buyer to assess. For £750 it looks like you might get a Beta subframe with wishbones and a Beta windscreen?

Hi Guy

Yes, same shell and the guy selling it is the same guy currently selling the GC engine. I do not think it is the original guy who bought it at the auction however.
