Rear HPE window frames rusted away.
« on: October 30, 2026, 09:57:36 AM »
Hello, after removing the rear windows on my HPE in order to fix some rust in the surrounding area I quickly noticed the bottom trim on the window frames had rusted through. It is the part of the frame that pushes against the window seal.

There is hardly any metal left. I'll try to attach a few pictures to show how severe it is. It is the same on both sides. Is this repairable or must it be replaced. I have looked for replacements but they seem to be non existent.

There are two types of frame. The early ones like the OP has which rust for fun where the B pillar is visible in body colour with the front edge of the window having two tags that slip into slots in the B pillar to enable a sort of hinged opening operation. The later type has a stainless steel cover that overlaps the B post and is screwed onto the front of the B pillar with either a polished stainless or black painted frame. The later type is much more common these days and the easiest replacement to fit, just don;t forget to rustproof the newly drilled fixing holes!

Hi

I feel your pain, my HPE had exactly this, I kept the glass and scrapped the frames. I also wanted to keep the original mounting as described above using the two slots in the B pillar, so have asked my body guy to recreate the lugs in stainless added to the later stainless frames. I have not had them back yet, so cannot show them.

None of the later frames I've seen have had corrosion on the Coupe's Mark.
