Yes you have to raise each side so care needed there, also to use regularly will involve some improvement to sideways stabilisation, but the benefit is weight/maneouverability and storage all of which are a problem when you want to move it. Also this way together with axle stands for added security leaves the center of the car without any obstacles whilst under the car. Also only one side has the retaining pin to stop the tilt so that one needs to be used if only using one of them to access a particular side.

I just have pads fitted, copper slip on backs and wedges, no noise etc. Not noticed that pads move, but there will be a very small amount of movement of course, but definitely not much. Maybe swap pads for different brand?

The chattering did not start for a while. I re looked at the pads (good Lockheed brand I think) and springly things and it did not make a noise for a few miles then clack clack....... Of course I did not clean off the ceramic grease.... Idid not measure the free movement but <0.5mm - the slots in the caliper guides were not worn...

Brakes / chattering brake pads

The brake pads on my beta weren't fitted with any "fitting kit" when I got the car and the MOT man mentioned the pads were able to move up and down a tiny bit.
So I bought a fitting it from Bigg Red (see photo) which has a curly spring for each pad and some ceramic grease. I have fitted these one per pad and applied grease to the back of the pads and calliper "wedges". After a few miles I now get speed related front pad clacking noise which goes when the brakes are applied.
The brakes are fine (MOT) and there is absolutely no binding (wheels cool).
Have I fitted these incorrectly |(no instructions)? Or do I need to springs per pad (there were only 4 in the set/4 pads).
Noise is driving me crazy!

After using the new tilting lift on the Spider, which did a good job. I now wanted to use it on the HPE shell to allow me to get rid of the current support 'dolly'. The problem with using it as intended is that the bars which connect the two sides of it would get in yhenway of the dolly. So I split into two separate lifts and arranged them under the sills of the shell. Each has a separate gearbox so this worked well. The only issue being having to support the bars which stick out. I then connected a drill to take up the slack
The shell is now supported by the tilting lift both sides. I will see how it progresses probably leaving it for more elderly folk. I will make some more permanent supports rather than the blocks of wood I grabbed to keep it balanced.

« Last post by Ferrit on August 24, 2026, 12:28:29 PM »I find around here (KT7) not bad driving as such but aggressive and very busy! lots of 20 mph speed limits seem to stop the speeding quite well. Cycling at my mother-in-laws near Bournemouth is much faster noticeably
