So Simplydelboy posted about selling one of his Lancia's a few weeks back right after I left a hefty bid on a Rover SD1(I need a classic I can use now not a project that I currently have. So my bid on that was unsuccessful so I immediately contacted Derek to view his HPE. I would have done this at the time had i not just put a bid on the above as the Lancia fits my criteria. So went to see it 12/04 but was aware of a small water leak that Derek insisted on rectifying first and today he has advised all sorted. So ive now paid for the HPE and in the process of having it transported to me (cam belt hasn't been done in 13 years so not risking the drive up the A1) thats on my list to do and will now get the bits ordered.   car should be here swiftly as soon as transport can fit it in just in time for show season

I have ordered a seal kit, the extra different size seal just in case, and a pair of clamp bushes.  I have already the new gaiters and the inner TCA bushes.  I read somewhere here the insides of the bellows should be dry on a PAS rack.  Friend of Alan's who has done a couple says it can come out through the drivers side hole in the inner wing.  I think my Bank Holiday is planned out already :-)

PS I will check the TCA's

I am going. And have been accepted for the track... But I think I am still waiting for the "special pass".

Anyone else going and doing the track??

Hi Eric

On the PAS there should be no fluid inside the gaiters?

Hi Mark It could just be split gaiters which are fairly easy to get and can be fitted with the rack in place. If all was operating smoothly then a full rack rebuild can be avoided.

Consider new track rod ends if you get into this. Or at least inspect them for splits in boots and play very carefully. I have re-built 2 of these racks with some comedy moments like pumping ATF out into my face. Others laughed myself less so! Wear safety glasses and be less of an idiot than I was. It is a TRW rack used on some period Audis so there are overhaul people out there.

One of the spare racks I had was supposed to have been overhauled and it was basically rusty junk given the black spray paint treatment so take care with your choice of overhaul specialist.

You will soon have the best Beta on the road!

Hi Mark

That is bad luck, you will have a new car at the end of this.....

Depends where the fluid is coming from. If out of main body, then yes seal kit, but there are only two takeoffs which need crush washers. I also found the seal kit from Mark had one seal the wrong size, but from memory he also sells the other seal separately. My guess is there are two versions of the rack just to make it interesting. Luckily the missing/wrong size seal was also available widely off the shelf when I rebuilt mine.

From Neil Sims this morning

Lancia groups to have direct access to Brooklands via Mercedes-Benz World and the Vickers Bridge. The gate will be open from 08.45 to 09.00. Latecomers will need to enter via the main gate.

When i fitted an in head thermostat to the 2l HPE I also went overboard and fitted an uprated water pump and lower temp thermostat (circa 82 deg C from memory). These mods have transformed the temp the engine runs esp in traffic. Previously the engine ran really hot most of which was due to a dodgy thermostat and now i certainly feel a lot happier never seeing the temp guage going above middle!. I imagine the uprated water pump would help when running aircon and an uprated alternator?.  Maybe also the lower temp thermostat?.
