Thanks for the tip Nigel, I'll give that some thought although I think I've sorted it for now. The clip is a D-Type Edge Trim Clip and I've found some on evilBay but in nylon which is much less likely to damage paint. £10 for a pack of 25 is worth a punt but the dimensions aren't quite perfect I suspect it might do the job! I may finish the installation by Sikaflexing the clips into the trip before I fit it.

The original plastic surround doesn't cover much of the metal flange and it gives a return edge for the windscreen sealant to creep under further securing the screen. Tim Weston told me about losing a rear screen once....

Hi Guy

Second what Nigel suggested. I used it on the Spider round the screen. Make sure you get the smaller version as I initially used a larger one which the screen guy said gave too little area to bond to. Cannot remember the sizing but may be buried in my Spider thread. I will take a look later.

Thanks for the feedback Peter, I haven't ruled it out yet, I'm going to see how the nylon clips I've ordered work out, if they can keep the original trim in place without masking the paint I'd prefer to use those. I think I want to use original parts where I have them and they're in good condition but I'm happy to modify other stuff so there's little originality left when I identify something I want to modernize or replace!

Off to Gerry's again next week for a week or so, this time I'm taking my wiring notes with me to progress that aspect, unfortunately the Simtek loom didn't turn up at Malvern last weekend but I hope to collect it soon and have further discussions about what else it can do and what it can't!

Interested in nylon D clips. I have metal ones securing the carpet which I need to replace, but failing to find the right profile ones.

I'll count the number I need Peter (rusty witness marks on the plastic trim) and if there are any extra I'll drop a spare in the post to you. And if there aren't enough I'll buy more etc. And if they don't work where I need them to you're welcome to them!

Any which way I'll send you a clip or 25..... :D

Back from a week at Gerry's, two weeks before the next trip South. Had some deliveries whilst I was away! The toothed drive belt kit for the alternator, crankshaft and water pump arrived from Croatia (it took ages and ages to get shipped and almost two weeks in transit) but it looks very well made. The 175 amp Wosp alternator also arrived and the toothed pulley on that is identical to the Croatian one so no need to swap that which is a relief! The alternator feels like it's a solid lump of metal, I certainly don't want to drop it on my foot!

I also got some split wiring conduit and the nylon clips for the screen trims which I'll try and report back on. With 25 in a pack that will probably do one screen. Hopefully they will hold without marking the paint but a little Dynax won't go amiss!

The wiring harness I ordered from Simtek is ready for collection so that's a day out on Tuesday! I think the next jobs will be to remove the dash and finish off the soundproofing and fit the final grommets, finish off the dash mods and then start some wiring. And I really must give the garage a good hoover before I tear the engine and box apart for an inspection.

With a bit of luck I might get a few days in the garage in the next week or two.

Dash out today to fit the last of the sound deadening and bulkhead grommets.... And therein lies the problem. I think these two belong in there, one above the pedal box and the other to the left of the brake servo mount. Not that I can persuade either to go in yet. So the questions to those who know the answers (I can't see them in the Beta manuals or my disassembly pictures..) are

1. Have I got the right locations for these two?
2. Do the tails protrude into the cabin or the engine bay?

Cheers

Hi Guy

Not sure they are from your car?

They are the cold air feed to the right and left side on the pre facelift dash and fit into the bulkhead. Not sure they were used on the facelift? When we used the IE bulkhead etc on the HPE I wanted to retain the pre facelift dash and the guys had to cut out the holes to accommodate these 'grommets'.

If you need a picture of where they go etc on pre-facelift let me know!

Consider yourself let known Peter! If they're not for the places I think they belong I need to look for the correct grommets for these two holes!

Cheers
