I have not added any purchases since December to my running total.  Since then I have a recon head rebuilt, gear change bushes, dyno fiasco, and now steering.  Oh and have a set of recon headlight fittings to fit.  I am a bit scared...

I am very sceptical of any running restoration in terms of budgeted costs now.

M

Never have a running total, it is just a stick to mentally beat yourself up with, spend what you can justify and repair to a high standard that you are satisfied with. If you see a gleaming one for sale at half what you have spent reflect upon the fact that it will probably still need all those niggly details putting right at significant cost. With classics the grass is rarely actually greener on the other side.

I keep a record of my expenditure that includes the initial cost and transport.

My car stands at a total of just over 15.5k, and I'm quite comfortable
with that. It's been a 7 year hobby, and much cheaper than previous exploits!
And there's more to come....

oh,and an Uno Turbo 1997 also in SA [stolen, never recovered]

Cough. I have absolutely no clue where I'm up to but it's probably the most expensive car I'll ever own. It'll never the most valuable though. I can only get insurance cover for a quarter of the value declared for the Stratos replica. £60k vs £15k......

and no, I don't where it's up and I don't care! This is my holiday fund as Andrea won't travel.......

made me laugh!  I have three categories for purchases - need, good idea and want.  Which are make it go, make it go further, make it pretty.

higher then my car, Nigel whats yours centre of wheel to wing/arch edge please? :-)

Hi Guy

I am with you on that, my HPE will be (is) the most expensive car I have owned or had as a company car.

My view is if you have to start worrying about the cost, then you should not do it and no I have not kept a running total, absolutely no point in reality as it will be worth a fraction of what I have and will spend on it.

This needs it own thread :-)

I am not worried about the cost, I am more interested in how much it is costing in total.  I love listening in on people chatting to mates about your cars at shows and their lack of reality of what its really like owning one.  Mostly around how much work they sometimes need v costs v aptitude v energy.  I have a friend looking at old XJS's, and I am thinking mechanics are all fine but the wiring :-O.....
