Hi All,
I am very excited that its now only just over a week to go until Betameeta! I thought I would update you all on what is planned for the Betameeta weekend.
Friday 25th Arrive at the Peacock Hotel Henton Oxfordshire OX39 4AH from 3pm onwards. After check in there will be time for drinks and catching up before heading into Chinnor to "Bipuls Kitchen" either on foot (1.5m) or by car for a curry followed by a few scoops it the Red Lion opposite. For those not wishing to walk into Chinnor or if the weather is unduly inclement we will either need to arrange designated drivers or a taxi. I need to confirm numbers before Thursday evening - so can you please let me know if you are joining us for that.
Saturday 26thMorning drive out over the cotswolds to Burford via a scenic route made famous by Harry's Garage and No27. For lunch we will attempt to go to The Farmers Dog, but won't be able to eat in the pub itself - however there is the Farmers Puppy which serves burgers, sandwiches and sausage rolls and the farmers dough which serves pizza which requires no reservation - parking is adjacent to the Farmers Dog Site on the B4047 (Burford Road) If the Farmers Dog is overcrowded (quite likely) we can head to the Burford Garden Centre which has ample parking and has a café. There are also options at the top of Burford High Street with the Prince of Burford pub and the antique centre to visit. There is either the scenic drive through the cotswolds back to the Peacock or a more direct route via the A40 / Oxford / M25. I contacted Lucinda who is Jeremy Clarksons PA. Unfortunately the Farmers Dog cannot make any special reservation for us or our cars.
Dinner Saturday evening will be at the Peacock Hotel. Please email your menu choices from the menu below to Emma at the Peacock as soon as possible on
escape@peacockcountryinn.co.uk clearly marking that you are attending the Lancia Beta weekend and let me know on here or by facebook message that you have confirmed. The meal will be followed by Andy Collins's world famous Lancia Beta quiz - on my request is being set to fiendish - so start swatting!
Sunday 27thI had hoped that we could go to Silverstone to see the excellent museum there, but the BTCC is on that weekend and it will be very busy and tickets for the museum become quite expensive, so instead I plan to have another drive out on rural roads up to Gaydon to the British Motoring Museum. If we switch the weekend around we could have attend "Rustival" which is on Saturday, but I did not get a reply from the organisors so we'd probably be in the overflow car park rather than display area. Lunch is available in the café and when everyone has taken in the vast number of displays in the museum we can disperse from there.
**Country Driving Routes / Directions will be printed**
*** I have also ressurected and renamed last years Betameeta whatsapp chat so we have contact across the event, please let me know your number if you are not on the chat either by facebook message or on here and I will add you***
