Broken window mechanism
« on: July 12, 2026, 06:28:05 PM »
Hi everybody, my right window mechanism doesn't work anymore so I removed it. When I tried to look for a new part I see that there is MANUAL WINDOW REGULATOR 8229769 on ebay from DG Rally. But I also found another one which looks like a face lifted (better) one (see other attachment). Is the 'newer' one better or should I get the original one?

Hi

It may be simpler to repair your old one, they are pretty simple. Depending on what you find it will most likely either be a worn out cog or the drive coil.

Olivier,
Your mechanism is probably repairable, and as Peter says, it's most
likely to be the spiral drive cable which will be worn, probably at only one end.

You can reverse the cable to put the good end where it's needed. New
cables are available though. In any event you'll need to be handy with
a drill and pop rivets to reassemble.

Thanks for the suggestions, although I'm not that handy with a drill and pop rivets, I also broke the part where the handle needs to be. Still repairable?

In case not, which 'new' one should I get?

I know Mark Wastnidge had a few manual mechanisms in stock a year ago - I gave him a new old stock one that had been given to me! I can't remember which side it was though so I'd recommend giving him a call to see what stock he has at what price. There may not be any showing in stock but it's worth the call, the site may not be right!

I think you need to look at replacing it, the sheared splines mean that's scrap. Don't be tempted to convert to electric windows either, the inner door cards have access holes in a different place to the manual winder handle. I think the one on the DG Rally eBay site is the wrong side for you though?

Hi

I have spare used ones, let me know if you still need one. I also will have a spare spindle you have broken in case you want to repair your one.
